SKU: British_40_mm_Bofors_HE_Projectile_____WWII

Original WWII 40 mm Bofors high-explosive projectile (Sprenggranate) of the type used with captured Bofors 40 mm anti-aircraft guns in German service.

The projectile retains a particularly attractive amount of its original yellow wartime paint, together with surviving black stencilled markings on the body. The steel surfaces show moderate oxidation, scattered pitting and age wear, while the projectile remains structurally very well preserved.

The complete nose assembly is present and can be dismantled as shown in the photographs. The brass nose fuze retains clearly visible original markings, including a 1941 date, together with additional manufacturer/lot markings. The fuze adapter also retains much of its original yellow finish.

The copper driving band is intact, with normal oxidation and wear. Overall, this is a very attractive example, especially due to the considerable amount of surviving original paint and markings.

The 40 mm Bofors was a Swedish-designed anti-aircraft weapon widely used during WWII. Captured examples were taken into German service, including weapons designated 4 cm Flak 28.

Original WWII 40 mm Bofors HE projectile, associated with German use of captured Bofors ammunition. Empty and completely inert. Original paint and markings preserved. For collection and display purposes only.
